COMMONLY ASKED QUESTIONS ABOUT wsOMR:
=====================================
For a detailed FAQ, please refer to Mary Draganis
(e-mail:kira@zip.com.au, www: http://www.zip.com.au/~kira/wsomr.html),
It is being constantly updated by the author and periodically posted in
WSOMR-L.
Q. What do I have to do before running wsOMR?
------------------------------------------
A.
1. Unpack wsomr120.zip in a directory and make the directory current
2. Run Install
3. Run wsOMR
3. Choose "configuration" from the main menu and answer some
questions.
Q. Can wsOMR read QWK packet file?
-------------------------------
A. Yes. Pass /Q in command line to access QWK packets:
wsOMR /Q
Q. Is there a way to save messages addressed to me automatically to
the default INBOX?
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
A. yes, update wsomr.ini to use book mark on the packets:
use_bookmark=yes
wsOMR will save all the personal messages to INBOX the first time a
packet is opened.
Q. How to save batch of messages to the INBOX?
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
A. While viewing message or in the message list screen, press "M" to
mark the messages, then press "W", you will be prompted with three
options, "Save to : I) Inbox, M)multiple files, S) single files",
choose "I" for folder.
Q. How to limit the length of messages to be saved to INBOX?
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
During the batch saving of messages to Inbox, wsOMR uses the
entry,
Max Inbox msg length=10000
in the wsomr.ini as the max size of message to be saved, if
this entry is set to 0, no saving of message during batch saving.
However, wsOMR ignores this entry when doing the individual
saving(Alt-F, Alt-G).
Q. I got a message from BBS A and I want to reply to that message in
BBS B, Is it possible?
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
A. Yes, while viewing the message, press ALT-G to save the message
into a Global Inbox. then switch to BBS B and view the Inbox (All)
and answer the mail there. One thing to be kept in mind is the area
tag, bbs B's area tag might be different from bbs A, wsOMR can pick
up the right area tag for you, you must choose the right one from
the pick list.
Q. I got a message from BBS A and I want to reply to it in the
Internet, is it possible?
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
A. Yes, use the method stated above.
Q. My signature file works fine with Internet/SOUP, but I'd like to
use it for my qwk packets too, how?
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
A. Traditionally bbs does not use signature files. by default, wsOMR
uses signature file you defined in wsomr.ini for Internet and soup
formats only. However wsOMR will use the "Signature" entry found in
format.ini if defined. With this feature you can use different
signature files at different levels, please check format.ini for
more details, following is an example to enable the signature file
in QWK mode:
[QWK]
signature = "c:\mail\qwk.sig"
another example, use sigfile in a particular echo area, OFFLINE:
[OFFLINE]
signature = "c:\mail\offline.sig"
Q. When I run telix from the "dial" option, Telix complains that some
files not found and starts with new user's option, why?
------------------------------------------------------------------
A. Instead of making "telix.exe" as the entry for your comm progam,
use a .bat file, following is an example:
rem mycomm.bat
c:
cd\telix2
telix
cd\
in the configuration comm option, use mycomm.bat.
Q. When I choose the OPEN PACKET option from the main menu I get this
message saying that there isn't any packet in the download directory.
(???) (I copied the QWK packet to the same directory where my BW packets
are placed)
----------------------------------------------------------------------
A. wsOMR assumes that the file extension for QWK is q*, if your packet
has a different file extension, wsOMR will not be able to locate it.
You can update wsOMR.ini to change the default setting, look for
EXT_QWK, ex:
EXT_QWK=q* k*
This is also applicable to Bluewave packets, just look for EXT_BW.
Q. When running ShareSpell spell checker, it displays "can not find
dictionary" Why?
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
A. Make the ShareSpell directory part of DOS path.
Q. How do I enter addresses in the Address Book?
---------------------------------------------
A. The format is :
NAME(max. 36 characters) *fido address $internet address(max.67)
Example :
Jim Ayson *6:750/2.300 $jra@europa.com
Q. How do I put comments in the Address Book?
------------------------------------------
A. Lines started with ";" or "*" are considered as comment lines and
will be displayed in two different colors:
1. ";" will be displayed black on cyan, this is good for main
group.
2. "*" will be displayed black on green, good for remarks
about the line next to it.
Example:
;-- Friends/Authors in Cyberspace --
* SOUP author
Rhys Weatherley $rhys@fit.qut.edu.au
* UQWK author
steve belczyk $seb3@gte.com
* Newswerty, SOUP reader for usenet
William Werth $billw@eskimo.com
Note: it is important to turn off the address sorting off if you
have comment lines in your address book so that the display can be
logically arranged.
Q. How to send an Internet mail or Fido Netmail?
---------------------------------------------
A. Go to Netmail Area. Place the Internet or Netmail address in the
INTER: field. That's all, no more no less. Alternatively, you can
press F9 to pop up the address book for your frequently used mail
addresses. The book has two addresses per line: one is Fidonet
prefixed with a "*", while the other one is the Internet address
prefixed with a "$". wsOMR will pick up the address depending on
your choice of Internet or Netmail. No more additions of: UUCP
and blank line in the body of text. Simply compose your message
straight with your text editor.
Note:
1. If you are using QWK format, please make sure you are in the
right netmail area.
2. This is only applicable to Fido mode of wsOMR.
Q. Netmail/Internet mail in QWK
----------------------------
A. Different bbs, qwk doors have their own method in sending netmail
and Internet mail, please check with your sysop for more detail.
A future version of wsOMR will have the feature to automate the
methods used by different doors.
Q. Compatibility with Bluewave 2.12?
---------------------------------
wsOMR's echomail is fully compatible with bwave version 2.12 or
later. Netmail support is compatible with versions greater than
2.12, so avoid using bwave 2.12 to update a wsOMR created packet
containing netmails. For Echo mail, no problem.
Q. How to do an offline configuration/file request in QWK mode?
------------------------------------------------------------
There is no standard way in QWK for offline configuration and
file request, you have to refer to the documentation of QWK doors
used in your BBS.
Q. What is the OUTBOX and what are the uses of it?
---------------------------------------------------------
The OUTBOX keeps your outgoing mail/replies. for every
bbs_id there is one default OUTBOX.
Q. What is the INBOX and what are the uses of it?
---------------------------------------------------------
The INBOX keeps your incoming mails. for every bbs_id there is one
default INBOX folder. To put mails into INBOX, press ALT-F while
viewing incoming message.
Q. What are the archive programs supported in wsOMR?
-------------------------------------------------
ZIP - PKWARE Inc.
ARC - System Enhancement Associates
LZH - Haruyasu Yoshizaki
PAK - NoGate Consulting
ARJ - Robert K Jung
UC2 - AIP-NL.
RAR - Eugene Roshal
Q. How to detect more than one wsOMR loaded?
----------------------------------------
A. wsOMR will detect multiple wsOMR in DOS. if you are running wsOMR
under Windows, you should load SHARE.EXE to avoid multiple wsOMR
accessing same reply/mail packet.
Q. How to create the temporary file in a specific directory during
memory swapping?
---------------------------------------------------------------
EMS (LIM 3.0 or above) or XMS is used automatically if there is
enough space left, otherwise a temporary file is created. If the
"TEMP=" or "TMP=" environment variable is present, the temporary
file is created in the directory specified by this variable,
otherwise it is created in the current directory.( taken from the
doc of Thomas Wagner's Exec)
Q. Can I update address book & tagline file while running wsOMR?
------------------------------------------------------------
A. Yes, you can use the editing options in the menu, don't update those
files directly under DOS shell.
Q. I have set is_re_4_reply in wsomr.ini to "NO", how come my replies
in Internet mail still have that "Re: " prefixed with the subjects?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
A. This entry is applicable to Fidonet messages only. For Internet
replies "Re: " is a must per RFC 822 specification.
Q. Is there a limit on number of lines in a message?
-------------------------------------------------
A. for reply messages (outgoing messages), the limit is 32K bytes. For
incoming messages, you can view only the first 32K of the message on
the screen. However, the Write option under message viewing screen
will write the entire message to the file you specify without
chopping any data from the message, this is good for file attach
messages.
Q. How to send/receive files in Internet?
--------------------------------------
A. to send file:
Enter file name in "F/A" field, this is only applicable to Internet
mode
to receive file:
While viewing the message with file attached, press "D" for
decoding, and choose the proper decoding method to expand the file.
Q. Why can I not send mail using wsmail.c. I always get errors like:
sendmail not found?
----------------------------------------------------------------
A. Probably the sendmail program is in a directory that cannot be
located by wsmail.c. Try following steps:
1) whereis sendmail
you will get the directory name where sendmail is located
ex: /usr/lib/sendmail
2) change the line in wsmail.c,
char *send_cmd = "sendmail -t "; /* change this in case different */
to the one you located in the step 1
ex: char *send_cmd = "/usr/lib/sendmail -t "; /* change this in case different */
3) cc wsmail.c
4) mv a.out wsmail
5) that's all. Some systems use smail instead of sendmail, just
change it accordingly.
Q. I have an Eudora folder, IN.MBX. Can I read it with wsOMR?
----------------------------------------------------------
A. Yes. Eudora's folder file is in RFC format. Just rename it
to Internet.001(or anything you like), and run wsomr /i.
